On most construction sites, there is an abundance of 'scrap' material that is tossed in the trash. Seeing perfectly fine pieces of lumber go to waste in this manner troubled me deeply. Whenever possible, I opted to take home the scraps and left over materials to use for my own projects. The pieces here, other than the hardware, are made entirely of these repurposed materials.
Coffee Table - Knotty Alder and Ipe $1500
The bulk of the table is made from a beautiful knotty alder that was left over window trim. The inlays are made of Ipe deck boards. Ipe is a dense, exotic hardwood that has proven to require extra time and care to work with.
The diamond-inlay, rounded corners, and chamfered edges add a sophisticated touch to the well-loved butcher block-style.
